Description
Get ready for Merrie Monarch or graduation & stand out in the crowds by wearing a one of a kind feather lei art piece. Being presented is a new and unused Hawaiian Lei Hulu (feather lei), Kamoe style. This lei was created using the exquisite emerald green goose coquille feathers accented by golden pheasant. This one of a kind piece is unique and original. The kaona (hidden story) behind this lei is the yellow ginger plants that grow wild on the Nu’uanu Pali Lookout. Hence this lei is called: Kapuaawapuhimelemelemakakuahiwionu’uanupali. The picture doesn’t do the lei justice - it’s a super deep & rich velvet emerald green color.
This lei hulu is a traditional, yet contemporary-modern style lei for hula dancers and/or Hawaiian lei enthusiasts. Each of the several hundred (thousands?) of single feathers are meticulously tied by hand. The lei, if sold in stores, would cost 0-600+. Custom orders available.
This lei can be worn on a hat or as a necklace. Great for graduations, hula performances, hanging out at Merrie Monarch, or a gift for that special someone. The Kamoe style lei measures 21” long, with about 9" of ribbon (which can be shortened to your desired length). The width is 1”.
I am a 4th generation kama’aina (born and raised in Hawaii) that has been making lei hulu for 25+ years. I have been taught by several feather lei experts (including Kumu-Aunty Paulette and Kumu Mele from Na Lima Mili Hulu No'eau in Honolulu, HI). I have danced Hula professionally for 15+ years (studied under Kumu Patrick Makuakane) and speak Hawaiian (Haumana of Kumu Noe'au Warner). Hence, I take this craft very seriously and put a lot of aloha and pride into my work.
No returns. Please ask all questions before bidding or purchasing. I ship all of my leis in Rubbermaid-like waterproof containers for safekeeping and longevity. Custom orders accepted. Please inquire. Aloha.
