Original oil paintings by some of the best known artists of the American Southwest are exhibited son the walls in this hallway in La Placita Dining Rooms on the Old town Plaza in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The hand carved walnut balustrade on the stairway was freighted to New Mexico by wagon train down the Old Santa Fe Trail a century ago. La Placita Dining Rooms occupy the historic Casa de Armijo, a Spanish hacienda which dates back to Albuquerque's founding in 1706 as a Spanish villa near the banks of the Rio Grande.
